Agriculture fits easily into the subject(s) you already teach! Below are some resources that will help you make connections to agriculture across the curriculum.

Curriculum Matrix

The Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix is an online, searchable, and standards-based curriculum map for K-12 teachers. The Matrix contextualizes national education standards in science, social studies, and nutrition education with relevant instructional resources linked to Common Core Standards. Lesson Plans & Activities

We have lessons and activities from pre-school to high school that are set to the New Mexico standards and benchmarks. The lessons include power points, activities and even some fun facts about New Mexico! We also have an extensive loan library available that includes educational books, DVD's and resource kits. Also do not forget to check out our Resource Guides and the NMAITC Coloring Book.

Resource Guides

We are pleased to take this opportunity to introduce you to Agriculture in the Classroom. New Mexico Ag in the Classroom is an outreach education program sponsored by the New Mexico Farm Bureau. Our mission is to develop in students an understanding of agriculture, its history and cultural significance, how it fulfills our needs for food and fiber, and its place in modern society. We develop teaching materials on agricultural topics such as soils, animals, plant growth and nutrition. We also host workshops for teachers, assist in coordinating ag fairs and present classroom demonstrations for K–12 students.

Awards & Grants

One teacher award will be given to an educator currently engaged in classroom instruction at the Pre K-12th grade levels. This award will recognize a NM teacher for his or her integrated efforts to teach students about the importance of agriculture. NMAITC Teacher of Excellence Award Application 2014-15 is here!

National Agriculture in the Classroom

You can get more information for your classroom from the National Agriculture in the Classroom. The mission of Agriculture in the Classroom is to "increase agricultural literacy through K-12 education." An agriculturally literate person is defined as "one who understands and can communicate the source and value of agriculture as it affects quality of life." Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) programs seek to improve student achievement by applying authentic, agricultural-based content as the context to teach core curriculum concepts in science, social studies, language arts and nutrition. By encouraging teachers to embed agriculture into their classroom, AITC cultivates an understanding and appreciation of the food and fiber system that we all rely on every day. AITC is unique within the agricultural education community as the lead organization to serve the full spectrum of K-12 formal education.
